Sustainable Spaces Receives Accreditation from the Building Performance Institute

First California Home Performance Retrofitter to Earn Rigorous Certification

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — January 28, 2009 — Sustainable Spaces, a San Francisco-based home performance contractor and national leader in the growing field of home health and energy efficiency, announced it has received accreditation from the Building Performance Institute (BPI). In receiving BPI accreditation, Sustainable Spaces becomes the first home performance retrofitter in California to offer its customers invaluable third party verification on the quality and superiority of its work.

With increasing national focus on energy efficiency, and policies geared toward retrofitting American homes, having national standards is a key component to creating a solid framework for operations that ensures quality and results. BPI accredited contractors have completed rigorous training, administered by a network of affiliates, in home performance evaluation focusing on this house-as-a-system concept.

BPI accreditation guarantees that it has appropriately certified staffing and quality management systems that result in the delivery of consistent, high quality building performance services on every project.

“US home’s produce roughly twice as much carbon emissions as passenger cars. With a focus on economic recovery, jobs, and energy savings, a concerted effort to fix our existing infrastructure of poorly performing homes, has been recognized as one of the most effective means to achieve all of these goals,” said Matt Golden, president and founder of Sustainable Spaces. “BPI is the leading national accreditor of building performance contractors and it only recognizes companies that adhere to its strict set of standards. We are very pleased to have met the rigorous process and to instill confidence in our customers by committing to an independent, third-party quality assurance program administered by BPI. This assures our clients that we are committed to delivering our whole-home approach to performance retrofitting at the highest levels of quality.”

“Sustainable Spaces is one of the leading companies in the growing home performance field,” said BPI Chief Executive Officer, Larry Zarker. “Where Sustainable Spaces goes, so do many other contractors who are following their lead. We welcome the opportunity to provide an independent, third-party quality assurance on the work that Sustainable Spaces conducts for its customers,” he added.

In addition to the BPI accreditation, Sustainable Spaces was also recently awarded the “Best Overall” Flex Your Power Award and ranked number 16 out of 100 on the fastest growing companies in San Francisco Bay Area by the San Francisco Business Times.
